Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Did we miss your question? Let us know,  get in touch!

What do you do, exactly?

Thank you for asking!  We take your multi-page, print-at-home PDF sewing pattern (tiled on A4 or Letter-sized paper) and digitally stitch it together into a single, seamless file. This creates either a projector-ready file for your sewing projector or a large-format print-ready file (like A0 or ARCH E) that you can send directly to a print shop.

My sewing pattern PDF is locked/password protected. Can you still help me?

It depends on the file.

We can usually put together the sewing pattern puzzle pieces even when your pdf is password protected.

The most significant limitation with password-protected files is that we cannot move around specific pattern pieces (i.e. a sleeve, cuff, collar, etc.) to make them fit onto a single page. For example, your sleeve might be split into two A0 pages simply because we cannot move it to optimize space.  You might also end up with extra white space on some pages because of the way your sewing pattern is laid out.

If we cannot work with your sewing pattern at all, we’ll let you know and process a full refund.

Can you work with Mood's sewing patterns?

So far we’ve been successful with assembling Mood’s free sewing patterns into a single file, which works beautifully for projector-sewing.

For printing, please keep in mind that we cannot move individual Mood pattern pieces (sleeves, cuffs, collars, etc.) around. What this means for you:

  • you might still need to do some taping, but a lot less than printing at home!
  • you might have some printed pages with way too much white space around the pattern pieces

Get in touch if you have any doubts about your specific file.

How do you prepare projector files?

We digitally assemble your print-at-home sewing pattern, and send you a pdf of your assembled sewing pattern ready to project onto your fabric.

How do you handle cut-on-fold/half pattern pieces for projector sewing?

Depending on your sewing pattern, we can do this for you. Please contact us, let us know what you’d like for your projector file, and we can send you a quote.

What's your turnaround time?

Typically 1-2 business days.

Can I pay extra to have my file in less than 24 hours?

Usually yes, but please contact us directly before placing your order.

I'm a professional pattern maker, how can you help me prepare files for customers?

If you can supply a vector (Adobe Illustrator, SVG, EPS, unlocked PDF) of your sewing pattern(s), we can create:

  • print-at-home (tiled letter/A4 pages) pdfs
  • A0/ARCH E sized sewing pattern pdfs
  • Projector files, including opening half/cut-on-fold pattern pieces
  • sizes on separate layers
  • password protected pdfs

Please get in touch with your specific needs and we’ll prepare a quote for you.

What is A0 sewing pattern printing?

A0 printing is a large format printing service that allows you to print your sewing patterns on large format paper. This eliminates the need to tape smaller A4 or letter-sized sheets together, making the pattern assembly process easier and more accurate.

Sewing patterns you purchase online often include the sewing pattern in an A0-sized PDF file (also referred to as large format or copyshop file), and this is the file we would need in order to print for you.

What are the benefits of using A0 printing for sewing patterns?

You can save time & effort

Arguably the main benefit of printing your sewing patterns in A0 is the amount of time you save. The alternative for most people is to print their sewing patterns at home in A4 size, and similar to a puzzle, piece all the pieces together to create the complete sewing pattern.

When you’re sewing something like a long evening wear dress, you can easily find yourself needing to print 50-100 A4 pages to form the complete pattern. Of course, the exact number of pages can vary depending on the specific pattern design, layout, and size variations.

If you’re only making a hat, small accessory, baby clothes, or other small items, you might not need to print more than a handful of A4 pages, so the benefits of printing at home would outweigh those of printing on A0.

Improved accuracy

The more A4 pages you need to put together, the easier it is to make a mistake. This can happen because even if you’re off by a mm, this can quickly add up and leave you with gaps or crooked patterns. Occasionally you might forget to set your printer to the correct settings, and print your pattern larger or smaller than it should be. If you don’t realise this and continue to the sewing part, not only will you have wasted paper, but also your time, fabric and patience! Make sure to read: What is printing at scale, and why is it so important?

What file formats do you accept for printing?

Typically digital sewing patterns are in PDF format, but if you have a different format please get in touch and we’ll likely be able to accommodate.

What is printing at scale, and why is it so important?

Printing at 100% scale means that you’re printing your sewing pattern at the exact size it’s meant to be. Since we are also sewists, we understand this requirement, and ensure that all our patterns are printed at 100% scale.

Most patterns will offer a square or line with the intended measurement, so we get our rulers out and double check your pattern is printed correctly. Occasionally we’ll find some patterns that are not scaled properly because of issues with the pattern file. In these cases we can fix it for you, but we’d always advise to let the designer/pattern maker know so they can fix it for other customers.

On our home printers we often play with scale to ensure we make the best use of our paper, so we’ll either stretch what we’re printing to fit the entire size of our page, or we’ll shrink to make sure it fits on a single page. Our printers sometimes save this as a default so that the next time we print, it’s easy to forget or overlook this setting. Unfortunately this can also be overlooked by commercial printers who aren’t familiar with printing sewing patterns.

My pattern only comes in A4 size, can I still print it in A0 size?

Yes, but your pattern must first be converted into A0 size. We can do this for you.

We always recommend getting in touch with the pattern designer or supplier and requesting an A0 size because it’s much more economical, it helps other sewists, and it can also be optimised for A0.

I need help, can I speak with someone?

Of course, please get in touch and we can always jump on a call from there if we need to.
